Ok some tips on how to make them pass.


I said I would use the word 'Moron' so lets get this out of the way first,

No one in the real racing world or in a Sim racing world tries to pass on the outside.

Yes I know it gets done but the more often result is that you run off the road or you get passed by the Guy who was behind you in your frustration.

Now why the #$&* do people continually create pass.LP's that try to do this and get the same results ?

Probably cause they blindly follow the instructions at the GPLEA to do it this way I guess, well I'm a Rebel !

Now listen to this, THERE IS ONLY THE NEED FOR 1 PASS.LP !!!

Its very simple, you do the one pass replay, create your pass1.LP copy it and rename it to pass2.LP and there you have it, 2 pass.LP's that GPL requires but only the one pass line.

A successful pass replay takes a bit of practice but is done something like this..

Remember how we drove at 90% for the race.LP ? Well put that to bed, we need to go flat out now in some area's and you dont have to be an Alien either !

Don't worry too much about corners, all you have to do around the actual corner is stay on a tight line and aim for the middle of the track on exit just trying to stay 90% or better, you don't have to be a world beater, if the AI pass was successful into the corner (which is what we are aiming for) the AI car will actually rejoin the race line on the way out where the race.LP and pass.LP meet somewhere around the apex of the corner.

Where the passing should happen is under brakes as per real life ect.

Once you have exited a corner try to maintain a line that is just to the inside of the main race.LP line that you did, enough so the AI car has a clear pass line. If you go too far over from the race.LP line, the AI car will probably not bother going over to it. If it is a narrow track then you may get away with driving down the centre of the track.

You need to go 100% flat out down the straight !.

If the AI car is up your bum or another AI cars bum then it will think "Hey there a faster line right next to me, I think I'll take that one rather than being stuck behind this Idiot'!

Can you see that? Your 90% race.LP line now has a faster pass.LP line right next to it which the AI car will use if its close enough and the great thing is the AI car will come back to the race.LP and slow down once its past. Some tracks this works and some it doesn't and don't ask me why.

Ok corner time...

As we approach the corner we now brake as hard and as late as we can using that same line just next to the race.LP. Dont worry about smooth turn-ins to the corner just as long as you can turn in where you are suppossed to and get around it as described above.

Remember how we moved all the LP records up by one for the race.LP to think in advance ?

Well here's the beauty of it all, we have told the AI cars on the race.LP to brake earlier and those AI cars who want to pass on the pass.LP will out brake them because they are thinking later as well as the fact that we have braked like crazy on our replay lap, magic or just simple logic!

I have even moved all the pass.LP records down 1 record to help with this on slow tracks.

Now listen to this, AI cars as in the real world do not and can not pass at every single corner,
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A PASSING ATTEMPT AT EVERY SINGLE CORNER !!

You are sometimes better off to just follow the racing line with the pass.LP and keep the AI smooth in preparation for a real chance to pass just as in real life !!
